Our Story

How it started...

Calvary Tabernacle has been in existence for over 35 years.  It was founded in September of 1982 as a non-denominational church by Pastor James L. Tate, in Elizabeth, NJ.  Pastor Tate worked in concert with many local and regional ministries to unite Christ’s body and create a foundation of love for God and each other at Calvary Tabernacle.

In 1999, Pastor Clem Salerno took over as Senior Pastor when Pastor Tate retired.  A new facility was renovated and the Church relocated in 2000 to its current location at 69 Myrtle Street, Cranford.

It is from this foundation that we purpose to build together all that God has spoken to us.  We have been called to be a place of prayer, training, and mercy to see God’s Kingdom actively released into our hearts, our homes and our communities.

Expanding the vision...

We are a kingdom minded ministry having the oversight of the Harvest Training Center.  The Harvest Training Center is an Apostolic Ministry which has been established for uniting, equipping and sending out Kingdom minded individuals.  We are committed to serve and support every believer's God given purpose and passion.  This is achieved by regional partnerships with proven ministry leaders who are able to effectively model and impact both the gifts and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Where we are headed...

As we look back on God’s faithfulness over the years we can see that He is willing and able to meet all of our needs but not for the “just meeting them” but that the process would transform us continually.  Calvary Tabernacle is the manifestation of a vision and a mandate.  The vision is to develop a House of God’s Glory, a building where the doors would never be locked and from which many ministries would emanate.  The mandate is to minister as if it was your last day to do so – to give everything away for the sake of the kingdom of God and not the empire of man.
